Rio de Janeiro Carnival is a fantastic festival that takes place in Brazil. It´s amazing to experience how Rio comes alive once the carnival starts in February and it continues to be just as wacky and frivolous for four entire days. Once the city temperature goes up, the people of Rio are busy preparing for this elaborate event. I found the best way to experience the event was to go a few days in advance. Everyone is so pumped to get the massive party started, crowds are always arriving early!

Once the event is started, the rest of Rio´s necessities go on hold. The city literally stops for the occasion! While the Carnival is celebrated everywhere in Brazil, in Rio de Janeriro it becomes a national event where celebrities are often spotted. This fantastic spectacle is held for a time of feasting and gallivanting before the fasting starts in the Lenten season. The combination of colour and music is inspiring and leaves you glowing for months afterward!
